Pen-y-bryn Annex Expansion Shaping Up!

In mid-2014 we began the process of planning for the expansion of our three guest rooms in the Oamaru stone “Annex” building (the Nest, Park and Garden Rooms) by challenging Timaru-based architect Desmond Prisk, who had been involved in the original conversion of the Annex building into a guest accommodation back in the 1990s, to design something that would be in keeping with the historic nature of the lodge but allow us to provide more spacious and contemporary rooms for our guests. After many months of tweaking the design, we finally had a plan by early 2015, and shortly thereafter we hired Tim Burke Builders of Oamaru to build it.

Work began in June with the dismantling of the three guest rooms and the removal of all the interior fittings, and soon enough scaffolding was erected, walls removed, and new walls constructed. In the past few weeks it seems that everything has started to speed up considerably, as we are already starting to tile the new bathrooms and prepare to paint the interior walls. Furniture is starting to arrive as well, so it would appear that all is on track to have the rooms ready for guests by October.
