Oamaru and Pen-y-bryn in the News
September 22, 2015
There has been a sudden spurt in reporting on interesting things in the Oamaru area, including a few articles about Pen-y-bryn Lodge itself. New Zealand’s Life and Leisure magazine for September/October 2015 has no fewer than three pieces about Oamaru. The first one is about local car manufacturer Rod Tempero, whose replica Ferraris, Maseratis and Jaguars (among other classic sportscars of the 1950s and 1960s) command a devoted following among car enthusiasts around the world, despite being based out of a converted chicken coop just south of town. The second covers the amazing Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail, the newest and longest in New Zealand, taking in some of the country’s most stunning landscapes and causing a tremendous increase in visitors to this part of the South Island. Finally, the third article is about a young New Zealander who has made Oamaru his spiritual home, where his penchant for art, penny farthing bicycles and Victorian clothing cause fewer heads to turn than they do in his Christchurch neighbourhood.
Maxx-M, a luxury men’s magazine in Indonesia, has a piece in a recent issue on the top lodges in New Zealand, and Pen-y-bryn is of course included, along with Queenstown’s Matakauri Lodge and Blanket Bay, Otahuna Lodge in Christchurch, and Annandale Farm on the Banks Peninsula.
