Kaikoura Earthquake
November 20, 2016
Our hearts go out to all those who were affected by the 14 November earthquake in the area of Kaikoura. The earthquake, which hit in the early hours of the morning, resulted in two fatalities and significant changes to the landscape of that corner of the South Island, and it will be some time before all is back to normal there. However, as Tourism New Zealand has pointed out, the rest of the country is operating normally, and in fact we in Oamaru did not so much as feel the earthquake (our first indication that anything had happened was the large number of messages from friends around the world when we woke in the morning asking if we were OK). If you have any concerns about the earthquake, or how to plan your visit to avoid quake-affected areas, please do not hesitate to contact us.
